'Friction'
BBC Radio One's Bobby Friction - Asian Network
The Custard Factory, Birmingham, UK
Bespoke VJ team Butch Auntie built a set for this great concept-event organised by BBC Radio 1's Bobby Friction. An ecclectic fusion of such bombastic music is quite a task to prepare for visually, - but as usual, Auntie rolled up her sleeves and did herself proud!...
From the website:
Award winning BBC Radio 1 DJ BOBBY FRICTION, presents his own club night FRICTION which is set to bring a new lease of life into the Asian Underground music scene.
Each and every month, Friction is curated by BOBBY FRICTION himself and will showcase the elite artists of Asian Music; both live acts and DJ's.
For the debut event on Friday 24th October 2008, Friction are proud to present PANJABI MC who will be showcasing new material from his new album "Indian Timing". Undoubtedly one of the innovators of the British Asian music scene, PMC has picked up numerous awards over his career such as winning Best Dance Act at MTV Europe and UK Act of the Year at the Mobo's to name a few!
In addition, Friction welcomes cult live act SWAMI as well as PANJABI BY NATURE and SONNY JI from the BBC Asian Network to complete an awesome line up. Not to mention BOBBY FRICTION himself as your host, bringing the freshest sounds of the Asian underground and the coolest Desi beats to Birmingham!
Friction is a fusion of East meets West, Desi meets Urban Electronica in a celebration of the Asian underground. Each artist is hand picked by Bobby himself so expect to see the crème de la crème of exciting, fresh artists alongside leading world class tastemakers in one of the most unique settings in the UK.
'Cheese & Wine'
DJs Joe Beesley & Nick Lewis - CnW
The BirdCage, UK
Cheese and Wine eat 80's music for breakfast, lunch and dinner... And for their new residency at the Birdcage, Auntie has been cheering them on from the other side of the kitchen table! Joe and Nick founded the themed night many years ago & it's gone from strength to strength since.
Auntie's role involves building fun viral videos for the nights promotion team, and delivering fine visuals inside and outside the venue - to the theme of 80's styled animations and video samples.
Audience participation is a real hit in an intimate space like The Birdcage, and Auntie's toys and visual gadgets have allowed guests to get hands on! with digital OHPs, marker pens and acetate sheets - adding to the night's personal feel.
These virals for use on Facebook and Myspace helped Cheese & Wine get their audience worked up for a great night & draw in crowds from all around.
